Obituary:
Jack Raymond Hooper DDS, 88, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012 at VNA Charlier Hospice Center. Jack was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 29, 1923 to the late Frank and Florence (Hoefling) Hooper. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1941, following high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Jack served three years in the South Pacific during WWII, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He then attended the University of Evansville on a football scholarship for one year. Jack graduated from Indiana University in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree, then graduated from Indiana University Dental School in 1954. Jack had a private dental practice in Evansville for over 30 years and continued his dental care in nursing homes for many years. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Indiana Dental Association and a charter member of Rolling Hills Country Club. He was also a lifetime member of the IU Alumni Association and an avid IU fan. Jack and his wife, Martha enjoyed 23 years of traveling to Surf Song in Fort Myers Beach during the winter months. Jack is survived by his children, Mike Hooper of Newburgh, IN, Marcia (Hooper) Drollinger (Robert) of Indianapolis, IN, Jim Hooper (Sue) of Fort Edward, NY, and Mark Hooper (Jinx) of Evansville, IN, 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Jack is preceded in death by wife of 57 years, Martha (Mitchell) Hooper, parents, sister, Mary Diehl and brother, Frank Hooper. A mass of celebration will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River Road Evansville, IN 47715 with Father Bernie Ettiene celebrating. Burial will be held at Park Lawn Cemetery, where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites. Friends may visit from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, where a memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, March 26, 2012 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Avenue Evansville, IN 47711. Friends may also visit from 9:00 AM until service time on Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Charlier Hospice Center, 610 East Walnut Street Evansville, Indiana 47713.
