Obituary:Betty L. (Coffing) Newnum, 88, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family.
Betty was born in Fountain County, Indiana on June 29, 1924 to the late Homer J. and Florence N. (Beckelhymer) Coffing. She graduated from Kingman High School in 1942 and attended Danville Lockyear Business College. Betty was a loving mother and homemaker. During childhood, she was a member of West Liberty Christian Church and Sunday School. Later, as a member of the Methodist Temple, she sang in the choir. Betty was an early member of Christian Fellowship Church. Later, in travels with Ray, she attended Presbyterian churches and belonged to many spiritual groups. She was a volunteer at gift shops at Deaconess Hospital and St. Mary's Medical Center. Betty enjoyed dancing, sewing and ceramics.
Betty is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Raymond L. Newnum of Evansville, IN, daughters, Kathleen Roetzer (George) of Bloomington, IL, Janice Coffing of Evansville, IN, Betsy Newnum of Schenectady, NY and Lisa Queen (Jim) of Calabasas, CA, son, Paul Newnum (Jane) of Winter Park, FL, Grandchildren, Gretchen Roetzer, Derek Roetzer, Courtney Roetzer, Matthew Sbrocchi (Michelle), Emma Louise Hohenstein, Sara Queen, James Queen, Ella Rae Queen, Sean McDaniel, John Paul Newnum and Paul Michael Newnum, Great Grandson, Giovanni Sebastian Sbrocchi.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Michael Newnum, sisters, Ruby Hunt, Mildred Ahrens, Ann Ratcliff, Louise Coffing, brothers, Charles and Donald Coffing.
A celebration of her life will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Avenue Evansville, IN 47711.
Friends may visit from 3:00 P.M. until service time on Sunday at Browning Funeral Home.
