Obituary:John G. Walton, 96, of Evansville, Indiana, died May 29, 2012 at the Heritage Center in Evansville, IN.
He was born February 24, 1916 in Evansville, Indiana the son of Marguerite (Gilbert) and John Will Walton, John attended Indiana University and Evansville College. John's family was the center of his life. His most treasured moments were spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an active member of First Christian Church where he was an elder and member of the board of trustees. John was a born salesman. He was the general manager for Bachman Buick for 25 years. John was the vice president and secretary of the Evansville Automobile Dealers Association in 1938 and 1952. In 1962 he started selling for Muzak, where he worked until his retirement in 1988. After his retirement John wanted to keep busy so he worked for Sears and Midwest Systems and Sales. He volunteered one day a week at the American Cancer Society. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He was one of the founding members of the east side Kiwanis. During his time with the Kiwanis, John was their president, secretary and treasurer. He worked at the state level and was honored with a Gold Medal for fifty years of service with the Kiwanis. John's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Heritage Center for their care and attention for these last years.
John is survived by his wife of 73 years, Alice (Hebert) Walton of Evansville, IN, daughter, Julia Georgesen (Stephen), sons: John G Walton Jr. (Josephine), Charles Walton all of Evansville, IN, sister, Marguerite Heldt, grandchildren, Julia Jetmore ( Matt), of Chicago, IL, and John Georgesen, (Ann) of Cincinnati, OH, Carla Walton, Scot Wright, Stacey Wright, Julie and Mike Robinson, Larry Craddock (Susan) and Darryl Craddock, great-grandchildren, John William Georgesen and Daniel Georgesen.
John was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Berry in 1992.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Browning Funeral Home 738 Diamond Avenue.
