Mildred Cecelia (Handschiegl) Striewe, 83, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home.

Mildred was born in Mariah Hill, IN on May 24, 1928 to the late Leonard N. and Mary "Mamie" Frances (Fetter) Handschiegl. Mildred found her greatest joy in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed being a nanny for the Steve Thomas family in Evansville. When local grandchildren came along, she decided to stay home and care for them. She was also a charter member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Mildred was a loving person and will be deeply missed.

Mildred is survived by her husband of 61 years, Edward C. Striewe of Evansville, IN; daughters, Jennifer Martin (Fred) of Evansville, IN, and Julie Garrett of Evansville, IN; sons, Joseph Striewe (Ann) of Indianapolis, IN, and James Striewe (Marla) of Evansville, IN; sisters, Roberta Jochim (William) of Mariah Hill, IN, and Norma Sonderman of Ferdinand, IN; grandchildren, Katy and Clare Striewe, Patrick and Alex Striewe, Matt and Jenna Martin, and Heather and Kelsey Falls; great-grandchildren, Brevin, Mason and Rylan.

Mildred is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth Salzman; and her grandson, John Striewe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2301 North Stockwell Rd., Evansville, IN with Father Zach Etienne celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 9:00 AM until Mass time at the church on Wednesday.
