Obituary:
Mylda (Karukstis) Queitzsch, 90 years old, died in Evansville Indiana on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Pine Haven.

Mylda was born on August 30, 1921 in Frackville, PA. She spoke only Lithuanian when she entered elementary school. Mylda moved to New York City when she was 11 years old and that city was always a place of wonder and excitement for her. She married Charles E. Queitzsch on March 15, 1939 and they have celebrated 73 years of marriage.

Mylda worked for Alexander's Department Store at Fordham Road in the Bronx for many years and retired as assistant buyer for the gift department at Alexander's Fifth Avenue Store. Following her "retirement" she worked as manager for a Hallmark store in Manhattan and the New York State Tax Department, which was then located at the Twin Towers.

Mylda was a devoted wife and mother and still managed to excel at cooking, sewing and knitting. She was an active member of Fordham Lutheran Church in the Bronx, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Parkchester and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Evansville. Her hobbies included photography, ceramics and collecting.

Mylda moved to Evansville in 2003. For the past few years she has been a resident of Pine Haven, where she was affectionately known as "Miss New York".

Mylda is survived by her husband, Charles E. Queitzsch; her daughter and son-in-law, Karin Marie and William J. Kirsch; her daughter, Linda M. Singer; her grandchildren, Rebecca (Klaus) Treutlein and Hannah (Wolfgang) Treutlein of Germany, Sarah (Chris) Anderson of Champaign, IL and Diana (Jody) Withers of Richfield, MN; six great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mylda was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Kathryn (Pasvenskas) Karukstis, her sisters, Myrna Fessia and Sally Shult and her infant brothers, Frank and Joseph.
